Pdf Summary
The International CIED Patient Management Survey, led by Dr. J. Allred of CV Remote Solutions, aimed to assess perceptions of clinical practices related to the management of patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs). The survey was conducted to address the challenges in remote monitoring (RM), particularly organizational aspects, and to highlight existing gaps in current practices due to a lack of comprehensive data.

A Delphi panel consisting of seven clinical experts from the US and EU guided the structuring and objectives of the survey, ensuring its relevance and comprehensive nature. The finalized survey was then conducted online, with the assistance of the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS), gathering 471 responses between September 2023 and January 2024.

Key findings indicate that while 60% of respondents rated their practice as somewhat or very efficient, only 29% actually monitored their performance. Smaller clinics particularly reported lower efficiency and were less inclined to track their performance metrics. The survey findings show a diverse spread of perceived clinic efficiency, yet a common reliance on the volume of work rather than quality-related metrics for performance assessment was noted.

A significant conclusion drawn from the survey is that only a minority of clinics are currently engaged in a formal evaluation process, suggesting there is considerable opportunity for optimizing workflows. Such optimization could lead to improved efficiency in managing CIED patients. The survey identifies a critical area for improvement in patient management practices, urging clinics to adopt more comprehensive performance evaluation methods to enhance overall service delivery.

This survey not only highlights the existing inefficiencies but also underscores the potential benefits of implementing structured performance monitoring practices in CIED patient management.
