Pdf Summary
The CONNECT-EP 2024 HRX Conference showcased advancements in the management of neurovascular patients needing electrophysiology (EP) consults and treatments. It highlighted significant improvements made possible by adopting a new technology platform, which changed the process of cardiac monitoring in stroke patients. Implementing a streamlined, HIPAA-compliant communication module facilitated rapid placement of Insertable Loop Recorders (ILR) and Electrophysiology Monitoring (EM), drastically reducing the time from order to placement.

The conference presented a case study of a 65-year-old male patient who experienced typical challenges in cardiac monitoring, such as delays and miscommunications regarding the use of ILRs. Lessons learned here applied broadly, emphasizing the need for timely and efficient stroke care management to reduce atrial fibrillation (AF) risk through increased monitoring.

Data from the study showed a substantial increase in ILR placements, with inpatient placements rising from 3 to 51. The time required for ILR and EM placement reduced significantly, and patient satisfaction improved, with 62% choosing ILR over EM, highlighting the value of patient autonomy and choice in care.

Technological and operational enhancements, including the "Heart Team" module, supported these processes. This module improved data entry and communication between teams, ensuring smooth workflows with ongoing education and workflow refinement.

The CONNECT-EP program demonstrated a 1,600% increase in ILR placements before patient discharge by overcoming previous technological hurdles, thereby allowing for faster implementation and more coordinated and patient-centered care processes. This initiative enhances provider and patient satisfaction and showcases the potential for broader application across other service lines, potentially improving stroke risk reduction strategies significantly.
